{I'm ENGAGED...Now what?! ~ Who Pays for What?}

So now you're engaged...

and the wedding planning has begun. You have done your research and now it's time to make some decisions, however you have come to one of the most conflicting questions....

Whose family should pay for what?!

While every family has different opinions and each family needs to make these choices for themselves, here are a few helpful hints and a list of the traditional ways of dividing the cost.

The Ceremony

~The Bride and her family traditionally pay for the venue, as well as any musical ensembles that will play during the ceremony.

~The groom and his family traditionally pay for the officiant fees as well as the marriage licenses.

The Clothes

~The Bride and her family traditionally pay for the wedding dress and the viel as well as any other accessories that she chooses to have on her big day.

~The groom and his family traditionally pay for the grooms outfit.

~If you or your groom would like to be especially generous to your bridal party you can always offer to pay for the bridesmaids dresses and your groomsmen's outfits. However if this option doesn't fit into your budget then you can offer to pay for smaller things like your bridesmaids jewelry or your groomsmen's ties.

The Flowers

~The groom and his family traditionally pay for the bride's bouquet as well as the boutonnieres for then men in the wedding (including fathers, grandfathers, groomsmen and officiant). They also pay for all of the mothers and grandmothers corsages.

The Honeymoon

~The groom and his family traditionally pay for the honeymoon. Some grooms parents like to pay for the whole thing as a wedding gift for the newlywed couple but if not, I'm sure every little bit would help! ;)

~The Bride and her family traditionally pay for any kind of photographer, including wedding day as well as engagement pictures, and the videographer.

The Prewedding Festivities

~If the engaged couple is planning on having an engagement party, either one of the bride or grooms parents can offer to pay for this!

~The groom and his family traditionally pay for and host the rehearsal dinner!

Helpful Hint: If you can find a venue where you will be able to use the space for the rehearsal dinner the night before as well, then the grooms parents can help to pay for part of the venue! Everyone loves a two for one deal!

~It is the brides duty to pay for and host the bridal luncheon.

~The maid of honor as well as the bridesmaids traditionally host at least one shower for the bride as well as the bachelortte party!

~While the girls are out having fun, the groomsmen and ushers host the bachelor party for the groom.

The Reception

~The Bride and her family traditionally pay for all of the services that are included in the reception. Including the food, alcohol, flower arrangements, any kind of decor as well as the music.

The Rings

~The Bride pays for her handsome groom's wedding ring.

~The groom pays for both the engagement ring as well as the wedding ring for his beautiful bride.

The Stationary

~The Bride and her family traditionally pay for all of the save the dates, wedding invitations, as well as any other paper products for the wedding (table place cards, programs, menus, etc.)

We hope that this list of traditional costs will help this exciting time in your life be a little less overwhelming. Just remember to not let the cost of the day overshadow the meaning and significance of the marriage to come. Take a step back and remember to enjoy this beautiful time in your life long journey.

Helpful Hint: While traditionally the bride and her family pay for most of the wedding costs, of course a bride will never refuse a little help from her chivalrous groom! ;)
