{I'm ENGAGED...Now What?! ~ The 8 best things to splurge on for your wedding!}


Obviously you must plan for the necessities of your wedding first. And usually after planning for your guests, a floral explosion, and a foodie delight there is rarely any money left for extras. If by chance your budget has not broken the bank yet, here are some suggested splurges that will provide more bang for your buck:

1. INVITATIONS. Consider upgrading your invitations to a more personalized letterpress or custom engraving. Also consider printing guest menus for the reception. This small touch will bring a certain since of elegance to your special day.

2. EXTRA WAIT STAFF AT THE RECEPTION. Your guests will fell like they are being served in a 4 star restaurant with extra wait staff on hand. Plus they will be working faster and more diligently to provide your guests with the service they will love.

3. PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING. Lighting at any event can create a more dramatic feel to the space and add dimension to the room. Ambient lighting creates romance, and who doesn't want their wedding to feel romantic!?

4. CONTINOUOUS MUSIC. To change up the atmosphere of your wedding you may want to choose a 3-piece group to play for the cocktail hour and a live band for the reception, instead of a DJ. If you have already planned for a live band, consider the band breaks and add an extra musician to play continuously for an affordable fee. Or, for those of you who want to extend the party past the bands last set, hire a DJ to burn up the dance floor for a little late night after party.

5. PHOTOGRAPHY. Splurge on a second photographer for your wedding day. By having a second shooter for your event, you will get tons of photos from different angles, that you will be happy you have them after it's all said and done. You may also choose to splurge on a videographer (one of my personal favorites) that will capture every moment of your wedding day festivities.

6. RECEPTION FOOD. After finalizing your entire budget, this is one area that you may choose to expand on, or up-grade....your menu! Most of the time you can make new selections for your menu up to the week before your wedding day. This is a perfect opportunity to personalize your menu just by adding an additional station or asking your caterer to add one of your favorite foods to the existing list. Another great option is to host a late night station, maybe tacos, for those of your guests that are dancing the night away and are sure to be hungry by the end of the night.

7. FLOWERS. You may have selected a group of flowers that were price conscious or you gave up that large show stopping arrangement for the foyer of the reception venue. You may want to up the ante by adding additional key arrangements to your ceremony or reception areas to make your big day that much more perfect!

8. WEDDING DAY COORDINATION. This is an area that most brides do not give much thought to up until the wedding rehearsal and that is a mistake! If you have additional funds available, you should give consideration to hiring a wedding coordinator for at least the day of services. Most venues offer a wedding planner that actually coordinates the services provided by the venue however don't assume that these wedding planners will serve as your wedding day coordinator, but this is not their job.
