Margaret and Ben were an inspriring couple that we were so blessed to work with this year. Having their wedding at The Walter's Barn this summer was such a fun experience and hope that they enjoyed it just as much as we did! Here is a look in to their love story and their wedding day:
English professors have a way of making us feel inspired and optimistic. They have a way of bringing love in to our loves and fascination with the historic romantic tales from the past. Well, Margaret and Ben’s English professor at Georgia College and State University did just that. It was sitting in his class that allowed them to meet for the first time, and his love lectures must have created a spark between the two that led to a beautiful relationship a year later.
Five years later Ben had a bigger plan. He led Margaret to believe that they were headed to a surprise party in his hometown for another couple who had recently gotten engaged. They bought a present and all, truly tricking Margaret. Arriving at his hometown early, he brought Margaret to the local fishing spot he liked to go to. Nearing the lake Margaret saw a blanket set out with flowers on the dock. Margaret then had a feeling in her gut that something big was about to happen. It was sitting on the dock for some time discussing what they wanted their futures to look like and how much that they truly mean to each other, when Ben got down on one knee asking Margaret for her hand in marriage. Filled with overjoy, they drove back to his parents house where he had their families and close friends waiting to celebrate. What a surprise party that must have been! I think any girl could agree with Margaret that his proposal went above and beyond!
When it comes to wedding planning, a lot of brides tend to be overwhelmed with stress. Luckily, Margaret had worked in the wedding industry prior enabling her to learn what worked and what didn’t. The most stressful decision the couple had to decide on was choosing a venue.
“We wanted something with indoor/outdoor options, items included but also flexibility to bring in specific vendors we liked, and people who were caring, personal, and professional. We hit the jackpot when we found the Walter's Barn. I knew as soon as I drove up for the tour that this was the place for us. We couldn't have asked for a better day. The property itself is spectacular. The barn nestled in rolling hills of green with trees lining the original wood fences. It was wonderful having the house on property for all of the bridal party to get ready. There was plenty of space for the hair and makeup ladies to do their thing. The weather held out for the ceremony on the lawn over looking the pond and fields off in the distance. We loved being able to take pictures outdoors with our family and friends.
Ben and I took about 10 minutes after our first dance to eat dinner upstairs on the loft alone, which I would highly recommend for any couple! I think having the double-sided buffet set up in the screened-in porch was a great decision! The caterer's were able to set-up and break down without having to work around all the guests. Having both bars open for the first half of the wedding worked out nicely. We left the middle of the barn open for dancing which was perfect. Everyone was able to dance freely without being cramped into a small space. For the music, we made a dancing playlist of songs that people had requested. We loved every minute of that day! I wish we could have a party like that every year with all the people we love!”
We asked Margaret what her favorite thing about being married was and to her it is being able to come home to your best friend every night. They never lived together and the last two years of their relationship they lived thirty minutes apart, so being able to come home knowing that her best friend, now husband, will always be there is something so special.
