{ Mike & Nikki Wedding }

The Love Story of Mike and Nikki

We met in Alaska while working at a wildlife conservation center. We were instant friends and enjoyed working together and exploring some of the most beautiful places in the US. We dated for about two years before Michael proposed. That being said, we’d been best friends for six years before we tied the knot.

I had recently accepted a new job which relocated me from Athens to the Georgia coast. Our last day in Athens together, Michael took me out for lunch and asked if I wanted to go on a walk at the Botanical Gardens, one of our favorite spots in town. It was rainy out so I declined, even though he was pretty persistent. Instead we went to our favorite coffee shop and sat on the porch reading short stories to each other. After I finished reading to him, I looked up to find him getting down on one knee. It was a magical moment, and every time we visit that coffee shop, I can’t help but smile.

Our wedding day was filled with family tradition with our own unique touches. It was really important to us to include our families in our ceremony. My grandmothers served as our flower girls and my mother and sister-in-law read some of our favorite passages. Part of our ceremony also included a tree planting. After our first dance, we snuck up to the balcony of the barn to enjoy an amazing dinner catered by 2Dog Restaurant. It was probably one of the best decisions we made. It was so great to eat a full meal with my husband and have a few minutes of alone time to celebrate with each other before heading back to the party. While the entire day was such a dream, we were most blown away by how many people traveled from across the country to witness and support our marriage. It was such an honor and a true blessing to be surrounded by so much love.

I was so blown away by the beauty of The Walters Barn. From the driveway to the dock by the pond, there were endless opportunities for photos. I loved the rustic feel which made the inside of the barn breathtaking and timeless. Sherri, Mckenzie, and the rest of the staff at Soirees Southern Events were the people that really made the day. Every step of the way someone was available to ensure the vendors were set up, refresh the flowers, offer the bridal party water, and keep us on schedule; all without making us feel pressured or overwhelmed. Sherri even cut the cake for us! Soiree Southern Events also did all the flowers for the wedding. The bouquets, isle markers, and table centerpieces were so beautiful and perfectly complimented the feel we were going for. I’m so grateful for all they did to make our wedding an unforgettable day.
